Wendell Phillips of Madison, TN was born March 31, 1944, and transitioned from this life on Monday, March 17, 2025, at age 80. Pete, as he was called by many, was raised on a farm in Hillsboro, TN. He worked many years as a commercial truck driver, accumulating over 3 million miles. His tireless efforts in Future Farmers of America were rewarded with multiple awards. He also demonstrated his athletic abilities on the basketball court at Central High school in Manchester, TN. Pete’s diverse interests and hobbies showcased his adventurous nature, including fishing, camping, hunting, woodworking, blacksmithing, and his work with the Shriners, as well as his passion for NASCAR.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Phillips, mother, Willie Phillips, and Margaret Phillips Rigby.
Pete is survived by his wife Willa May Phillips; children: Tina “Sissy” Kay Phillips Winton (Truman), Rose Ann McClurkan (John), Leslie Dawn Dawes (Alex), and Lee Ray Peffer; grandchildren: Margaret “Maggie” Ganyer, Rachel Stinson (Seth), David McClurkan (Amber), Josuha Dawes (Leslie), Courtney Tait (Jeffrey); and great-grandchildren: Paisley Ganyer, Alexander Tait, Micah Dawes, Jemma Dawes, Everly Tait, Cora Dawes, Whittaker McClurkan, Oliver Stinson, Addilyn Tait, Anna Grace Dawes.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Salvation Army or Wounded Warriors organizations.
