POWERS, Melba Smith Age 81 of Madison. Passed away Thursday, February 6, 2013. A Celebration of her life will be held 1 p.m., Monday, February 11, 2013 at MADISON FUNERAL HOME, Madison, TN with Bro. Mike Tidwell officiating. She was born in Petersburg, TN to Thomas and Bessie Louise Norman Smith on August 4, 1931. She graduated from MTSU with a BS in education and earned her Master's from Lipscomb University. She was a member of Alpha Delta Sorority. She was a member of Neelys Bend Church of Christ for 55 years. She taught at Neely's Bend Elementary School for 28 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Powers; brother, Thomas Norman Smith; step son, Jerry Suiter. She is survived by step daughter, Sherry (Harold) Suiter; devoted friends and neighbors, Marvin and Myra Bryant; caregivers, Donna, Annette, Dorris, Faye and Sherry. Friends may visit on Monday from 10 a.m. til time of service 1 p.m. at MADISON FUNERAL HOME, 219 East Old Hickory Blvd., Madison, TN 37115. Interment Spring Hill Cemetery, Madison, TN.
