“Cherishing Every Life with Heartfelt Service”
James Robert Thomason Jr, known to everyone as Rob, went to be with the Lord on February 7, 2026, at his home in Hendersonville, Tennessee.
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Rob grew up in Old Hickory, Tennessee, a place that always felt like home. He was preceded in death by his father, James Robert Thomason Sr., and his mother, Mildred "Micky" Barton.
Rob is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Cynthia K; his sister, Lisa Hampton (Phil); his son, James Charles Thomason (Lacey); his daughter, Margaret Cora Hasting (Daniel); his daughter, Rachel Kathleen Hansbrough (Sean); and his daughter, Rebecca Claire Rucker (Daniel). Rob was "Pops" to eight cherished grandchildren: Jacob, Cora, Chelsea, Jonathan, Grant, Aiden, Abigail, and Elizabeth. Rob is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, that he loved very much.
For more than 30 years, Rob served as a respiratory therapist at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, where his compassion, skill, and steady presence touched countless young lives and their families. Helping others wasn’t just his profession—it was who he was. Rob never met a stranger and was always ready to jump in, lend a helping hand, or offer encouragement whenever it was needed.
Outside of work, Rob found joy and peace on the water and in the woods. He loved sailing and being outdoors, especially when it meant time spent with family and friends. His kindness, warmth, and quiet faith left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation will be held from 11AM-1PM with service to follow at Madison Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Spring Hill Cemetery.
Flowers are welcome, however donations may be made to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, honoring Rob’s lifelong dedication to caring for children and families.
