James E. Knight Obituary

"Cherishing Every Life with Heartfelt Service"

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved James Knight, who peacefully left this world on June 26, 2026, at Alive Hospice. Born on November 21, 1962, in the vibrant city of Nashville, Tennessee, James lived a life full of love, laughter, and compassion.

James was the cherished son of James Edward Knight Sr. (Brenda) and Janice Helen Knight Smith. His parents, along with a large and loving family, survive him. James was a devoted father to his daughter, Lashonda, and a beloved brother to Dr. Jerome Knight Sr. (Dr. Cynthia), Ryan Knight, Dejuan (Connie), and Tammie Perry (Lamar). His legacy continues through his adored nieces and nephews, Jerome Jr., Jerquisa (Dominique), and Kaylie. James also leaves behind his dear aunties, Johnnie Mae Knight Woodruff and Dorothy Jean Knight, along with uncles Johnnie Hall, Eli Dos’Reis (Naomie), and Keith Dos’Reis. A host of cousins and friends will forever cherish the memories they shared with him.

Educated in the Shelby County school system, James was a man of intellect and curiosity. He found immense joy in reading books, something that allowed him to explore worlds beyond his own. Basketball was another passion that kept his spirit youthful and his heart full.

James was known for his warm smile and the ability to brighten any room with his humor. He had an uncanny knack for making others laugh and his jokes will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His kind-hearted nature and joyful demeanor left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.

The Knight family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Madison Funeral Home for their dedicated service and support during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in James’s memory to an organization of your choice, in honor of his giving nature and love for helping others. James will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness, laughter, and love will live on in our hearts forever.

Entrusted to the care of Madison Funeral Home.
