"Cherishing Every Life with Heartfelt Service"
Billy Michael Rainey, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, at the age 70, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on July 5, 1955, in Madison, TN, Mike spent his life turning plain ol’ pieces of wood into beautiful works of art, and occasionally, a few “custom” pieces that didn’t quite fit the way he planned (but he’d never admit that). As a trim carpenter with a perfectionist streak, Mike’s craftsmanship was second only to his ability to make people laugh.
When he was not building something, Mike was either out fishing (and exaggerating the size of his catch), yelling “Go Titans!” at the TV, or cruising the high seas with his family… preferably with a buffet in sight. He loved simple joys, good stories, and a quiet afternoon where he could pretend, he was “resting his eyes.”
Mike’s faith in Jesus guided his life; his humor, kindness, and generous heart made sure everyone around him felt loved, and teased just a little bit.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Kathy Rainey; his kids, Michael (Candell) Rainey and Brandi Rainey (Dominic); his grandchildren, Kayla Rainey, Keaton Rainey and Azra Rainey; his mom, Shirley Rainey; siblings Ray (June) Rainey, Sherry (Leroy) Harris, and Phillip (Maria) Rainey; his loving nieces and nephews, and a big extended family, a whole crew of friends, and a wonderful team of caregivers who will miss his laughter, his stories, and his signature smirk.
Though his hands are now at rest, the work of the life he built, the love he gave, the memories he made, and the people he touched, will stand strong for generations to come.
Please remember his family, friends and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.
A Memorial service celebrating Mike's life will be held on Friday, Oct. 24th in the chapel of Madison Funeral Home; visitation beginning at 12 noon and service to follow at 1pm.
Entrusted to the care of Madison Funeral Home
